LEVI VAN VELUW | WE DO NOT REMEMBER
2 MAY - 8 JUNE 202417 RUE DES FILLES DU CALVAIRE 75003 PARIS
public opening 2 May -18:00-21:00
Les filles du calvaire presents Levi van Veluw's first solo exhibition in Paris, from Thursday, May 2nd to Saturday, June 8th. Levi van Veluw showcases his inner world through monumental installations as well as intimate sculptures.
For the exhibition We do not remember Dutch artist Levi van Veluw transformed the gallery window display into an artwork. He filled the space with 120 replicas of his
own effigy. The heads are arranged in a chaotic way. Fragments of these heads press unpleasantly against each other. It shows a disturbing and alienating view of
humanity.
In the center of the gallery, a 6-meter-high circular object cuts straight through the first floor. The space has a prison-like feel to it, offering no means of escape. On the walls of the cylindrical room are endless cupboards filled from top to bottom with hundreds of heads. Is this a depot, a studio you find yourself in? Or are you inside the artist’s brain?
In addition to installations, van Veluw’s work includes sculptures, drawings, and autobiographical films that draw from his childhood memories. From the depths of his memory, the artist unearths images that provoke universal emotions and question our human logic. Van Veluw plays with elements of order and chaos, posing to the viewer questions about our obsessive pursuit of control.
